The Rustic Mountain Campground In South Carolina That's Unlike Any Other

A little mountain getaway is always refreshing, especially in the heat of the summer, and if you live along South Carolina’s coast. But it doesn’t have to be summer and you don’t have to live on the beach to enjoy a little rustic getaway in the mountains. This little known campground is like no other you’ve ever stayed at. Trust us, and take a look:
Chattooga Sounds Camp is located in Long Creek and in the Sumter National Forest. It's also close to the endless adventures found along the Chattooga River.
As far as campgrounds go, Chattooga Sounds is far and above the most unique you'll ever encounter. It offers a wide variety of amenities and setups most traditional campgrounds don't have.
For starters, there is a group camping area that can be reserved for up to 40 people. It's one big space... and you put your tents where you want. If you've ever camped with more than one family, you know how difficult it can be to get campsites next to one another. It's just so much easier as a group if you can create a makeshift group site. That's not a problem here.
The campground has plenty of single campsites as well. You'll find walk-in and drive-up tent sites. There is also a number of camper and RV sites, but no hookups are provided - so come with the batteries charged.
And by the way, we're just getting started with all the interesting elements that make this campground so different. Many of their tent sites have camping sheds just like the ones found on the Appalachian Trail. You can just bed down in there in your sleeping bag, or bring a tent and use the shed to store... whatever.
Need to store some food in the fridge? Yep. The camp has one of those too. It's in the fully-equipped kitchen shed that anyone can use. Did you catch some fish on this trip and you want to clean and cook it on the stove instead of the campfire? They have one of those in the kitchen, so you're in luck!
And for eating, the camp has a large covered eating area. So if it's raining, everyone can gather under the roof and stay dry while eating. (It always rains at least once on every camping trip, right?)
But wait, if all of the above isn't enough to convince you this is the most unique campground in the whole state... then perhaps Bigfoot himself will!
It's true! Bigfoot lives at Chattooga Sounds Camp — at least ever since he was carved from the base of a downed tree three years ago!
Chattooga Sounds Camp is located in the heart of waterfall and rafting country in the Upstate of South Carolina.
The camp offers more than just camping. You can rent kayaks, arrange transportation to the river, and they'll even customize a rafting trip to fit your needs.
From camping sheds to a fully-equipped camp kitchen – and don’t forget Bigfoot, Chattooga Sounds Camp is a one-of-a-kind campground in South Carolina that any outdoor enthusiast is sure to love. Find them at 2851 Damascus Church Rd., Long Creek, SC 29658. More information is available on their website and on their Facebook page .
