North Dakota’s badlands are a true sight to behold and something everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. The unusual, strikingly gorgeous landscapes in the western region of the state are well worth seeing in person. This road trip is roughly 3 hours and 41 minutes of driving time, giving plenty of opportunity for time spent at the stops along the way for the best badlands experience.
This gorgeous area has the tell-tale painted canyons, rugged landscape, and plenty of unique geological formations to explore. Check out the overlooks within the park for the best views.
The town is a great place to stop for lunch and it connects to an amazing part of the TRNP. You can see lots of wildlife here along with the natural land.
This smaller state park is located in the valleys of the buttes along the Little Missouri River. Here you can see plenty of wildlife and enjoy the views.
Lastly, you can take an extra part of the drive even further south to the small town of Amidon, where you can find the aptly named White Butte just outside of it.
