What are some other things to do in the water in Kentucky?

Here in Kentucky, there's nothing we love more than a day on the water, or, as with the above scuba diving resort, *under* the water! There’s no shortage of outdoor adventures to be had in the Bluegrass State, with our numerous lakes and rivers providing the very best playground during the warmer months. Boating, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, fishing, and tubing… we can do it all on our Kentucky lakes! In addition to scuba diving at Pennyroyal Scuba Center, here are some fun things to do in the water in Kentucky:

  • Swim in a waterfall. Summer can be hot all over the Bluegrass State, but places with an abundance of bodies of water, like the following Cumberland Falls swimming hole, seem a bit more refreshing than dryer terrains, you know? Because in all honesty, the heat and humidity can be downright oppressive in the Bluegrass, so there is nothing better than finding the perfect place for a swim. There are ponds, lakes, rivers, and creeks all around the state, but nothing really beats a waterfall swimming hole in Kentucky, like the one located at Cumberland Falls.
  • Go kayaking. For outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy kayaking, there’s a splendid little lake that’s simply perfect for water-bound adventures — and it’s one you may never have even heard of. Grayson Lake is the best kayaking lake in Kentucky, and it’s absolutely worth checking out for your next adventure!
  • Go on an underground cave canoe trip with SUP Kentucky. Here in Kentucky, we love nothing more than a day spent on the water, whether it’s kayaking to hidden caves or leisurely lounging on a boat (Kentucky *is* the Houseboat Capital of the World, after all). We’re always up for an adventure, and while the Bluegrass might be best-known for bourbon and derbies, Kentucky is a dark horse when it comes to bucket-list-worthy outdoor recreation. And SUP Kentucky offers what’s quite possibly the most Kentucky adventure ever: stand up paddleboarding through an underground cavern in Red River Gorge.
  • Head to the beach! There are some downright stunning beaches in Kentucky that have white sandy shores and cerulean blue waters. We especially adore Dewey Lake at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park; it's a place with total Caribbean vibes!
