In Connecticut, it’s fairly easy to find a seafood shack along the shoreline, but once you are landlocked, its a totally different story. But, there is one crab shack located right in the center of the state that has a fun atmosphere and fresh seafood and you are going to want to check it out.
J's Crab Shack is located in Hartford and it's pretty easy to find. With an exterior that looks like an island cafe, you will know immediately that this is the spot to go for a seafood lunch or dinner.
The inside is bright and colorful with a massive ocean mural painted on the wall.
A large aquarium is one focal point in the dining room, but don't worry, you won't be eating the fish from in there!
The fish and seafood for dinner come right out of the fish market inside the restaurant. Talk about fresh! You can pick up items in the market to take home and make yourself or there are also already prepared items available.
But if you aren't really a chef, you might just want to pull up a chair and order yourself some freshly prepared seafood from the menu.
Whether you prefer your seafood broiled, baked, steamed, or fried, there are plenty of choices to please any palette here. Lobster, shrimp, fish, clams, and mussels all have a spot on the menu.
For a classic Connecticut taste, dive into the hot buttery lobster roll with tons of fresh meat.
Or try one of the stuffed fish dinners that just melt in your mouth. You really can't go wrong with any of the dishes here, but the lobster bisque always gets top-notch reviews.
If you bring the whole family, you will be happy to know that this crab shack has a game room to keep the young ones busy while you wait for your delicious cooked-to-order meal.
