Nashville has opened quite a few new restaurants in recent years, becoming a foodie city with a menu that spans all over the globe. For some, they’d rather indulge in a few biscuits with a side of gravy, others are attracted to our glitzy sushi spots and hamburger joints. If you’d rather enjoy a meal that’s homegrown Middle Tennessee, then these eleven humble little restaurants all around the city are perfect for you. How many have you crossed off your list…?
11. The Terminal Cafe - 733 Porter Road
The Terminal Cafe is a newer Nashville establishment, a small eatery on the east side of the city that centers on a travel theme. It's light and airy, a great spot for a quick sip or snack as you make your way across the city.
10. 417 Union - 417 Union Street
Located in downtown Nashville, 417 Union is a favorite amongst businessmen and women who haul themselves to the office early, early in the morning. The fare is classic diner material and it will stick to your ribs! This is home cooking at its best, and you can pitch up for any meal of the day. Except that midnight snack, of course. You're on your own for that one!
9. Rotier's Restaurant - 2413 Elliston Place
Charlie Daniel's has named Rotier's his favorite restaurant in Nashville, and we have to agree. The tiny eatery is located just a stone's throw from Centennial Park, and their cheeseburgers on french bread are a menu favorite. Another one of Nashville's oldest, a meal at Rotier's is a step back in time.
7. The Red Bicycle Coffee and Crepes - Various
The Red Bicycle got its start in Germantown, and has recently expanded to another space off of Nolensville Road. The cheeky decor and aptly named coffee beverages make for a fun experience. Whether you're looking for a quirky date night or crepes on a Saturday morning, we'd highly recommend.
8. Dino's - 411 Gallatin Avenue
Did you know that some claim Dino's is the oldest bar in Nashville...? Whether it's true or not, the cheese fries are insane and the new backyard seating area is great for a summertime hangout. Grab a pitcher of PBR and a cheeseburger to round out the day and you're set to go.
6. Coco's Italian Market - 411 51st Avenue N
Coco's takes a lot of pride in its authenticity, and you'll find more photographs of the Old Country on social media than its own airy and inviting space. The pasta is delectable and the service is kind, whereas the dining room is perfect for groups. It's the perfect all-in-one for us!
5. Athens Family Restaurant - 2526 Franklin Pike
Athen's has been featured on the famed, "Diners, Drive-In's and Dives" and serves some of Nashville's heftiest breakfast items. It's open twenty-four hours a day, so make sure to come by whenever you have a hankering.
4. Hermitage Cafe - 71 Hermitage Avenue
Hermitage Cafe is a true Nashville establishment! The old-school diner has a family friendly vibe, and if you sit at the bar you can watch your meals be made. It recently underwent a complete interior overhaul, so you'll probably need to go check it out. Order some pancakes while you're at it, folks.
3. Headquarters Coffee & Tea - Facebook
Small and tucked away off of Charlotte Avenue in West Nashville, Headquarters is the little coffee shop that could. Whereas the rest of the city has been overcome with a wave of new coffee, this hometown hero bides its time on a stretch of thrift shops and vintage stores. It's itty-bitty inside, but the patio out back is magic during the warmer months.
2. The Loveless Cafe - 8400 Highway 100
The biscuit at Loveless are legendary, as is the service and hometown ambiance. Although the tiny space has grown into quite and impressive array of buildings and shops, you still can't beat a breakfast of biscuits and gravy.
1. Mas Tacos Por Favor - 732 McFerrin Avenue
Loveless may be a classic, but Mas Tacos is Nashville's sleeper hit of a Mexican spot. The tiny establishment serves up $3 and a handful of sides, including classic elote corn on the cob and chicken tortilla soup.
