It can be surprising to newcomers just how diverse Nevada’s landscape is. Red Rock Canyon is undoubtedly one of the most well-known canyons in the state. However, few people are aware that there are many, many more canyons that show an incredible side of Nevada you’ve never seen before. These seven little-known canyons may not be as vast as Red Rock, but they are equally as beautiful. If you’ve been eager to explore some of the less famous parts of the Silver State, you’ll want to give these beautiful canyons a chance.
Located within Death Valley National Park in western Nevada, Titus Canyon is an awe-inspiring place full of interesting limestone rock formations, petroglyphs, and wildlife. The canyon is accessed via a one-way dirt road from the town of Beatty. The steep faces of the canyon overwhelm you as you continue down the narrow road. It's an incredible feeling that just can't be described.
Echo Canyon is one of eastern Nevada's most incredible gems. Located in the 1,800-acre Echo Canyon State Park, this place is the perfect year round destination. The canyon is described as containing typical Great Basin vegetation and climate, and is most notable for the 65-acre reservoir that is perfect for swimming and boating. A 2.5 mile hiking trail takes you to some incredible overlooks of the surrounding valley before descending into Ash Canyon.
Grapevine Canyon can be found on Spirit Mountain near Laughlin. The canyon is actually listed on the National Register of Historic Places since ancient petroglyphs can be found in abundance throughout the area. Over 700 petroglyphs and rock shelters are distributed through the canyon.
Located within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area is an area known as Black Canyon. The canyon is an oasis in the desert, with many springs (both hot and cold) found throughout the area. Popular spots like Nevada Hot Spring and Arizona Hot Spring can be found in Black Canyon. The canyon is also home to a stretch of the Colorado River. A guided kayak tour is an awesome way to experience all the beauty that this place has to offer.
Also referred to as Pink Canyon, Pastel Canyon can be found in a part of the famous Valley of Fire State Park. Valley of Fire is popular for a reason. It boasts some of the most beautiful and otherworldly landscapes. It seems that there is always something new to discover in this state park, including the absolutely gorgeous Pastel Canyon. The remote canyon lives up to its name. Here you'll find some of the most visually stunning sandstone features which are just too picturesque to resist taking a photo of!
Located inside the aforementioned Red Rock Canyon, Ice Box Canyon is a unique area that you must see for yourself. The hike into the deep and narrow canyon is rugged, but worth it. Here you'll come across a picturesque waterfall cascading down the canyon wall. The canyon is named after the fact that it remains in cool conditions all year long since the high cliffs block sunlight.
Carved by the Humboldt River near Elko County, Carlin Canyon is a fascinating landscape full of unique geologic formations. Despite the fact that I-80 resides nearby, the canyon is quiet and peaceful. It's really the perfect place to get away from it all and bask in the glorious beauty of Nevada's natural landscapes.
