New Hampshire – and all of the Northeast for that matter – is not exactly known for the quality of its biscuits, or gravy, or grits. But if you don’t have to travel below the Mason-Dixon line to get great Southern food – just North of the Notch. As it turns out, an old-fashioned family restaurant in Twin Mountain may just make the best biscuits you’ve ever had.
Munroe's Family Restaurant in Twin Mountain is certainly nothing fancy, but it's popular with locals and visiting hikers alike for good reason – it turns out consistently amazing food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The inside is quaint and unfussy – it'll remind you of your grandmother's house in the best possible way.
They make biscuits properly here – flaky, buttery, and scrumptious. In fact, most things on the menu are made from scratch.
You can't miss the Redneck Benny – biscuits topped with sausage, poached eggs, and gravy – or amazing biscuit-centered specials like the pictured Mexi Benny, with chorizo, guacamole, and chipotle hollandaise.
They do grits right too – whether you enjoy them for breakfast or dinner.
As you'd expect from a restaurant specializing in Southern cuisine, the fried chicken is absolute perfection.
Just don't forget to save some room for their scrumptious desserts!
You can find Munroe’s at 633 US-3, Twin Mountain, NH 03595.
