From their annual Oktoberfest to their everyday welcoming charm, this remote town in the Upstate of South Carolina is quite simply full of year-round adventure. Located just seconds off the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Byway (SC-11), Walhalla always dishes up high adventure in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Discover waterfalls, tunnels, quaint places to stay and a charming downtown to explore in this remote town that’s packed with fun.
The county seat of Oconee County is small and charming, and is filled with a rich heritage celebrated all the way back to when the first German immigrants settled here. In addition to the shops and restaurants in town, there are other points of interest and can't-miss places. Check them out below.
Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel
Begun in 1856, this mammoth — and incomplete — railroad tunnel was never finished after the project ran out of funding. Today, it's operated as a park by the City of Walhalla. Bring a flashlight and explore on a self-guided tour. The park is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. seven days a week.
Oconee Station State Historic Site
Built in 1799, the block house at Oconee Station has much historic value to the area. Explore on foot and then head to the trailhead to Station Cove Falls — a 60-foot waterfall in the forest.
Issaqueena Falls
The shortest and sweetest hike in South Carolina leads to an observation deck overlooking Issaqueena Falls. The trail entrance is located next to Stumphouse Tunnel in Tunnel Park.
Yellow Branch Falls
Hike for a mile and a half into the woods from a picnic area on the side of the road on SC-28 in Walhalla to get to this gorgeous waterfall. The 50-foot waterfall spills over stacked ledges and is worth the easy hike and the time it takes to get there.
Bolt Farm Luxury Romantic Retreat & Treehouse
You'll need an option or two for places to stay while enjoying all there is to offer in Walhalla. The luxury treehouse on the Bolt Farm is a primo choice. Find out more on their

Walhalla Civic Auditorium performances
The premier performing arts center in the Mountain Lakes Region, the historic venue regularly hosts regional musical favorites and popular tribute bands. Weave some culture into your outdoor adventures with tickets to a performance at this intimate venue that used to be a school.
Bantam Chef
You're sure to get hungry while exploring Walhalla. Luckily, there are many options to choose from, including one you just can't miss. That's because it's right on W Main Street and has a 10 foot rooster on top of the building. Seriously, you can't go wrong with the Bantam Chef.
Actually, you can't go wrong anywhere in this great little town in the Upstate of South Carolina.
Have you visited Walhalla yet? Do you love it as much as we do?
