We absolutely love sharing about Kentucky’s beautiful state parks, as they are such a wonderful and unique feature of our state. You can have a true resort experience all over Kentucky and escape everyday life for a bit, right in your own backyard. These parks are so good at allowing you to slow down, relax, and reconnect with nature and they are all filled with welcome surprises. Greenbo Lake State Park in Greenup, Kentucky is no exception and we think after seeing this devastatingly beautiful place, you’ll want to plan a visit.
Located in Greenup in Eastern Kentucky, Greenbo Lake State Resort Park is a beautiful retreat that is filled with surprises.
The main attraction, of course, is the lovely Greenbo Lake. The 225-acre lake is a lovely sight all year long and offers some of the best fishing in the state, as well as hiking trails around it, and plenty of opportunities to get out on the water in the warmer months. Greenbo Lake is even home to a Scuba Refuge!

The other landmark of the park is Jesse Stuart Lodge, which was recently renovated after a fire. It is now open and is the perfect place to stay when exploring this park.
The lodge's main room is cozy, yet open, with plenty of seating and beautiful views. You can curl up with a good book in front of the fire, or choose to rock away on the porch. You'll also need to pay a visit to the park's restaurant, Angler's Cove. This Kentucky Proud restaurant serves fresh and delicious meals, perfect for the entire family.
No matter the season, there are plenty of ways to experience the outdoors around Greenbo Lake.
There are longer trails that reach up to 9 miles and also a shorter one at just a mile. You'll find beautiful views, wildflowers, wildlife, and even a little history along these trails. And most of the trails are also open to horse back riding and mountain biking, so everyone can take advantage of the adventure.
In the warmer months, you'll want to get out on the water, whether it's the lake or the wonderful pool.
You can rent a pontoon boat, canoe, or kayak and explore the lake on your own. And on a really hot day, you'll want to take a dip in the pool, which is perfect for the kids with a zero entry area and a slide.
