Cambridge is a small town of about 1,500 people that’s about 20 miles east of Madison and 30 miles north of Janesville. It’s a short ride off either I-94 of I-90 and it’s well worth the detour for one of the best sandwich menus in the state. Made with tons of fresh, local ingredients, there’s something on this menu that everyone will love. In addition to their large sandwich menu, there are salads, sweets and even flatbread pizzas. But I highly recommend the sandwiches.
Cambridge is quaint little Wisconsin town with lots of charm and history. It's a great spot for a day trip, if you need an excuse to add CC's to your to-do list.
But really, you don't need any other reason to head here than for the food. That sandwiches are big and filling, with fresh ingredients and inventive flavors.
Perhaps the most well-known sandwich here is the brisket, which comes with bacon jam on a pretzel bun. But what takes this sandwich above and beyond is the Clock Shadow cheese curds that get piled on that awesome sliced smoked brisket before the sandwich is put under the broiler. The result is a massive, melty and oh-so-delicious sandwich you'll be telling people about for years to come.
CC's also has some wonderful, flavorful and filling soups. Opt for a half sandwich and cup of soup for a cozy, delicious meal or just add to your meal like this tomato soup with the ooey-gooey melty grilled cheese.
I won't wade into the "is a hot dog a sandwich" debate but I will tell you this is one of the best hot dogs you'll ever have. The chili cheese dog is chock full of toppings and so, so good.
They open at 10 a.m. every day, so if you're up for a late breakfast, you can't go wrong with a morning egg option...
...Or even a slightly healthier wrap with a side of fruit.
If you're looking for something a bit lighter than the brisket, there's house-made curry chicken salad on your choice of bread.
Even with that stellar and long menu, some special sandwiches also make an appearance. If you're lucky enough to come on a Monte Cristo day, you'll be so happy you did. Warm and melty and buttery and sweet and savory and so darn delicious.
There are so many great and personal touches on these sandwiches here, like house-made coleslaw and house-made thousand island dressing. Those smalls things are what makes CC's stand out. This isn't a grab-and-go sub shop. These are giant, well thought out, flavor-filled meals that you'll be so happy you had.
Pair your meal with coffee, chips or a bottled drink to create a filling, delicious and wonderful meal you'll be so glad you made the trip for.
CC's is a small spot in a small town that's big on taste.
