If you’re looking for a new place to explore that’s full of relaxing activities, check out this tiny town in the Indiana heartland.
Centerville is a small town in Wayne County that's located along the historic National Road that cuts through Indiana. This historic gem is full of small time charm and plenty of relaxing activities for all Hoosiers to enjoy.
Centerville is fondly known as the "City of Arches". If you stroll down the main road, you'll find lovely historic buildings, but none quite as captivating as the five buildings with historic arch buildings. Taking a leisurely tour of these historic structures is perfect for history or architecture buffs who love exploring old, unique buildings.
These famous buildings are noted by the archways cut into them, which once served as a practical means for residents and business owners to get to the back of their properties. The five arches include the Dill Archway, Shortridge Archway, Backenstoes Archway, Malone Archway, and Lantz Archway. Each arch is celebrated with a historic plaque and found along the historic Old National Road.
Centerville is also an antiques mecca and is home to several vintage and thrift shops, as well as the huge Centerville Antique Mall.
This massive antique mall is one of the largest in the state, with over 500 booths filled with unique vintage finds. You can easily spend hours strolling through this massive antique market. There's even an in-house eatery, the Station Shop Restaurant, in the heart of the mall, where you can stop for sandwiches, soups, salads, desserts, and more.
You'll also find one of the most unique stores in the country here - the Warm Glow Candle Company. This massive candle superstore is filled with candles of every shape, size, and scent.
You'll find more than just candles inside, though. You'll also find incredible home decor items, local wines, homemade chocolates, candies, and desserts, and there's even a cafe inside where you can grab a quick bite to eat, in between browsing.
If you love outdoor fun, you'll also find a little slice of heaven at the Cope Environmental Center. This educational nature center is a gorgeous outdoor space that you can enjoy any time of year. This nature center offers incredible educational events, outdoor play spaces, and hosts events throughout the year. It's the perfect spot to relax and unwind amidst some of Indiana's best examples of nature.
