In Indiana, we pride ourselves on our unique and quaint towns, from quiet, tiny towns like Nashville to more robust towns like Chesteron. While all of these towns contain some of the coolest places to explore in Indiana, there’s one town that stands out as the most Indiana town ever.
Speedway, Indiana is a town located inside of the north western part of Indianapolis. It's home to more than 12,000 Hoosiers and screams Indiana. Why? This little town is home to Indiana's crown jewel: the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
This beloved speedway is home to the Indy 500 and US Grand Prix races (among others) and is where this town attributes its unique name.

Of course, races aren't always going on, but there is always a good time waiting to be had at this famous speedway. Visit the Speedway Museum to learn more about the history of racing and view experience winning cars up close. You can also test out your own skills on the racetrack with personalized racing experiences.

Of course, that's just the start of why this central Indiana town is the ultimate Hoosier destination. On Main Street in Speedway, you'll find tons of amazing restaurants, like Dawson's on Main, which has a killer tenderloin sandwich, which many claim is the best little-known tenderloin sandwich in the state.
Since Indiana is also known for its awesome craft beers, you'll definitely want to swing by the huge Big Woods Speedway brewery and restaurant, located on the corner of 10th and Main.

While this brewery offers some killer brews, it also pays homage to the nearby speedway. The most notable tribute is the large, oval racetrack-shaped bar found in their main dining room. It's the perfect place to unwind during your trip to this historic town.
If you're a true Indy car fan, then you'll also want to visit the historic Dallara IndyCar Factory. You can tour the manufacturing facility, learn more about what makes these beloved cars so fast, and can even check out their awesome racecar simulators.
Of course, no small town in Indiana would be up to Hoosier standards if it didn't have great options for buying Indiana farm fresh produce. At The Famous Tomato, you'll find great local fruits and veggies, as well as homemade salsas, jams, hot sauces, candies, and much more. They also sell old-school sodas and make a mean chili that's rumored to be the best in the state.

Even though Speedway is technically located inside of the city of Indianapolis, you'll still find plenty of fresh air and nature to explore. Leonard Park is one great example of Speedway's open spaces, with great walkway trails, a playground, ball fields, and much more. Indiana is all about families, and Speedway absolutely gets that.
Indiana is also home to amazing art museums, which is why the Speedway Centre for the Arts is a nice surprise in this town. Here, you'll find a variety of 2D and 3D artwork to explore. This arts center also offers several classes (many geared towards kids) and has events throughout the year, as well as gifts for sale.
