Walpole, New Hampshire, is an absolutely lovely little town, but you probably wouldn’t think of it as the kind of place that would attract a French-trained, internationally awarded chocolatier. L.A. Burdick Handmade Chocolates proves that assumption wrong – this amazing chocolate empire is headquartered right in downtown Walpole, and all of the chocolates and pastries are produced right here in New Hampshire.
Given L.A. Burdick's fame in some of the biggest cities in the country, few realize that the business's home base is humble Walpole, New Hampshire. Larry Burdick, who studied chocolate-making in France and Switzerland, started the business in New York City in 1987 but moved it to Walpole just four years later. It's since expanded to four additional city locations, but Walpole remains the center of it all.
Step inside the chocolate shop and cafe and you'll immediately become by the most delicious smells of chocolate, coffee, and freshly baked pastries.
Only the finest-quality chocolate is used to make their delectable bonbons, so whatever types you pick you can't go wrong.
All of the flavors and ingredients are totally natural, and each individual chocolate is a work of art in its own right.
Settle into the shop's Tea Room for a hot drink and a bonbon. If you just can't get enough chocolate, they have several types of drinking chocolate on offer.
And the snacks aren't limited to just candies - they also serve absolutely extraordinary pastries.
In the warm months, the porch is the perfect place to watch downtown Walpole go by. The attached French restaurant, The Restaurant at Burdick's, is owned by the same family and is also splendid – so truly, you can spend hours and hours enjoying Walpole's delicious downtown!
