There are many things that we learn while living in Vermont, and these habits often stick with us for life. Here are some habits we can’t simply can’t unlearn from VT.
1. Kick your boots off.
Not just literally when you enter a house, but when you get out of the elements and into a car, truck or home you always bang your boots. You've tracked in enough things in the past to make that mistake again!
2. Always be prepared.
It's not just a boy scout thing! You'll know you're with a Vermonter if you need a tool and they whip out a Leatherman faster than a gun in the Wild West.
3. Don't touch a dirty car.
Unless they are straight out of the car wash, you'll be wearing the dirt, mud and salt for the rest of the day.
4. Wearing shorts as soon as it's above 40 degrees.
After a long winter, anything above 40 is perfectly acceptable as summer wardrobe weather.
5. Embrace a good DIY project.
Why pay someone when you can do it yourself?
6. Leave winter tires on until well into spring.
Conversely, you'll probably wait until the first snow storm before putting winter tires back on the car.
7. If it's not real, you pass.
Really, this should be a general rule - no, law - for everyone.
8. Use practical packaging.
Vermonters embrace the mason jar, as well as all sorts of repurposed packages.
9. You measure distance in time, not miles.
When you live in an area where a 1 mile road can take anywhere from 1 minute to 30 minutes, it's easier to manage expectations by speaking in time integers.
10. Don't trust the weather reports.

The aches in your bones will probably be more accurate than a weather forecast.
11. You will always greet strangers with a smile.
Vermonters are known to give a genuine "hello!" and this is one of many reasons why it's so awesome here.
