Nothing brings about the Christmas Spirit like a nice layer of fluffy snow. We haven’t had much of it this winter, so far. Here are your best chances to find snow in Iowa right now.
1. If you want to spend time in the historically snowiest town in Iowa, head for Mason City.
Their average annual snowfall is 41.2 inches.
2. Lake Park in western Iowa has the second highest annual snowfall of any city in the state.
They regularly get 39.9 inches of snow each year.
3. Coming in at a close third place, Cresco gets an average of 39.5 inches of snow each year.
You've got some catching up to do, Cresco!
4. Snowy Decorah sits in fourth place with an annual average snowfall of 38.8 inches.
This is a great time of year to see Eagles in the area, too.
5. According to the National Weather Service, Estherville has a 35% chance of getting a light dusting of snow in the next few days.
It's a beautiful area of the state with or without snow.
6. Your chances of seeing a light dusting of snow are 40% this weekend in Lamoni.
No promises, though. It hasn't been very snowy here in Iowa so far this winter.
7. If you want the guarantee of a magically snowy experience without having to wait for the weather to cooperate, you’ll need to head to one of Iowa’s three incredible ski resorts.
Seven Oaks in Boone makes enough of their own snow to completely cover the park. Enjoy a 30-acre snowtubing park, four lifts, and 13 runs. Make it a weekend trip and check out their lodging packages from local motels and inns.
8. Dubuque, home of the popular Sundown Mountain, is a beautiful town any time of year.
Sundown is in the middle of a 100-year-old cedar forest. You’ll think you’re in Colorado.
9. Head to Honey Creek to Mt. Crescent Ski Resort for tons of the fluffy stuff.
It recently underwent a $200,000 makeover and they cover the property completely with their house-made snow.
10. Right now in Iowa, your best chance to see snow is in the far northwest corner.
We haven’t had much snow so far this winter, but if you head to LeMars, you can get some of the next-best kind of cold stuff at the Ice Cream Capital of the World.
Where are you in Iowa right now? Is there snow on the ground?
