Sitting downtown on a quiet street is a beautiful dining establishment that has been serving libations for close to two hundred years. Columbus has a rich history of taverns and breweries, and the Blind Lady Tavern brings that history to us in the present. Read on to learn about this charming place and it’s past.

With its proximity to the the courthouse in downtown Columbus, this bar and restaurant has always been a favorite gathering place for men in suits looking to unwind after a long day. Though it has operated under different names, the tavern has existed since 1831.
Right as you walk in, you will be met with the historic decor of the tavern.

You will see a charming old bar, a gorgeous chandelier, and a carved black pillar in the middle of the dining room. The burgundy colors of the walls and the beautiful wood throughout the restaurant create an incredible atmosphere.
Originally, the tavern did not have a name.

It was simply one of many local taverns that people knew and frequented. Elizabeth Lessner bought the space in 2010 and called it The Jury Room, and Seth Laufman took over in 2015 and renamed it to The Blind Lady Tavern. It has also been called Welde Cafe, Irvin’s Place, and J.F. Gaiser Saloon and Boarding House.
The establishment has served many purposes.

While it's always served great drinks, the tavern has also operated as a boarding house and periodically as a brothel. During the Civil War it hosted and entertained both Union and Confederate soldiers. The building originally had three stories, but after a fire in the late 19th century only two remain.

The tavern was also the site of a murder.

In 1859 the madam of the brother, Frances Miller, shot and killed a man who was drunk and trying to break into the establishment after house. His name was Paulus Rupprecht. It is believed that due to this murder the Blind Lady Tavern is haunted. Staff have reported seeing ghosts and hearing piano music.
The bar serves fantastic craft cocktails.

The bartenders are incredibly skilled and will likely make the best version of your favorite cocktail, whatever it may be. To complement your cocktail, you'll want to get an order of The Devils - dates stuffed with goat cheese and wrapped in bacon.
The food at the joint is also excellent.

They have a brunch, lunch, and dinner menu. Brunch options include Poutine, Huevos Rancheros, and French Toast. The dinner menu also has excellent options such as a BLT Bahn Mi, Beet Salad, and Crawfish Etouffee.
The place is open every day except for Monday.
