Hiking might seem like a strictly summer activity, but winter is actually one of the best times to get out there on the trail. Listen to the crunch of the frost or snow under your hiking boots, and enjoy the solitude. You’ll feel even more connected to nature on a quiet, winter hike! Here’s one that we recommend for the winter months because it offers some great views and is just difficult enough to get your blood pumping on a cold afternoon.
The Rock Bluff Run Trail is located at Indian Cave State Park, in the southeast corner of Nebraska.
The steep climbs and sharp descents might leave you a bit out of breath, but you'll definitely stay warm on this winter hike! If you're not in very good shape, take your time on this trail.
The payoff? Incredible views of the Missouri River and the valley below. Make sure your phone is charged or that you bring a camera, because this area offers some spectacular scenery.
Stop at one of the Adirondack shelters to warm up. Light a fire and enjoy a picnic lunch for awhile, as long as no one has already reserved the shelter. You can reserve one of these shelters for overnight camping.
