Every day in Minneapolis, there are dozens of things to do. From seasonal events to concerts to exploring a new trail, you could easily fill your calendar with a new Minneapolis activity every day. That goes double when you add St. Paul into the equation. But despite all of the different activities just outside our doorsteps, there are still a few things that every person who lives in Minneapolis has done at least once. Read on to find 12 undeniable things every Minneapolitan has definitely experienced:
1. Gone to a Vikings game.
Whether in the old Metrodome or the new U.S. Bank Stadium, many of us have cheered for the Vikings live at some point or another. The stadium's location in downtown Minneapolis makes it convenient to see a game, after all.
2. ...or sat in the traffic for one.
What's not so convenient is the traffic overload during Minnesota sports games held in the Twin Cities. It's especially frustrating during the rare weeknight game, when the extra traffic from Greater Minnesota slows rush hour to a crawl.
3. Celebrated the season at the Holidazzle Parade.
Holidazzle is a Minneapolis tradition that has delighted and enchanted Minneapolitans for years. It's well worth braving the cold to take in the lights and festivities.
4. Spent the day at Minnehaha Falls.
Not every major city can say they have a waterfall within city limits, but Minneapolis can - and it's an impressive one, too! This 53-foot waterfall is in a Minneapolis park with trails that wind both above and below the falls.
5. Gone to a Twins game.
Like the Vikings, the Twins are now in a great new stadium right in downtown Minneapolis. Target Field is a delight to visit, and Twins tickets are so cheap that you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn't been to at least one game.
6. Wandered around the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
A visit to MIA is an ideal place to while away an afternoon - especially in the dead of winter. It's great to get out of the house, take in some culture, and stay warm. Even better: visiting is totally free! For that reason, most Minneapolitans have definitely spent at least a few hours here.
7. Gotten stuck behind a snowplow.
Nearly all Minnesotans have had this struggle, but the problem is even worse in the Twin Cities, where mornings are already congested after a fresh snow. To be stuck behind a painfully slow snowplow is a necessary evil that we have all experienced.
8. Crossed the Stone Arch Bridge.
Walking across the Stone Arch Bridge is a walk through the past. This old bridge has seen some incredible history, and it's a beautiful place to catch glimpses of both the Mississippi River and the Minneapolis skyline.
9. Eaten a Jucy Lucy.
The cheese-stuffed burger is arguably Minnesota's claim to fame, and it was invented right in Minneapolis. Whether you're loyal to the 5-8 Club or Matt's Bar, can you really call yourself a Minneapolitan if you haven't had one?
10. Spent a day at the lake.
Being the City of Lakes, Minneapolis has more than a few bodies of water to explore. In fact, there are 13 in total, with several other smaller waterways as well. Minneapolitans are never too far from water, which results in many long summer days spent at the lake.
11. Sampled the offerings at the city's many breweries.
Being home to several breweries, most people in Minneapolis have taken the time to support our local beer culture. It's such a big part of living in Minneapolis that it's difficult to find someone who hasn't visited at least one brewery.
12. Uncovered Minneapolis history at Mill Ruins Park.
Minneapolis was once called the "Flour-Milling Capital of the World." Though it's been decades since milling in Minneapolis was in its heyday, that legacy still exists at Mill City Ruins. The cool ruins found in this park are a trip back through Minneapolis history. It's so cool, in fact, that most Minneapolitans have been here many times.
