This Tiny Massachusetts Town Is One Of The Happiest Places In America
Massachusetts locals already know that this is a truly great place to live, but there’s one tiny Bay State town that was just named one of the happiest places in America.
The small town of Wellfleet on Cape Cod only has about 2,750 residents, but it’s a tiny slice of heaven. According to HouseBeautiful.com, Wellfleet is one of the happiest places to live in the nation. Residents report high levels of satisfaction in their personal and financial lives, as well as a sense of well-being when it comes to family and recreational pursuits.
Wellfleet doesn’t look too shabby at first glance, either. Filled with white clapboard homes that date back to colonial days and quaint small businesses, simply strolling around town will lift your spirits. For seafood-lovers, this town offers additional benefits: the famous Wellfleet oysters. Sweet, mild and delicious, these special shellfish are famed all over New England for their incredible flavor. Visitors and locals alike flock to the annual October Wellfleet OysterFest to get their fill of these salty treats.
And then, of course, there’s the seaside. Wellfleet is located about halfway between the “elbow” and the “tip” of Cape Cod and boasts some of the loveliest beaches on the cape. In fact, about 70 percent of the town’s land is protected.
Though the town’s population certainly swells during the summer season (sometimes up to threefold) permanent residents don’t have to worry about overcrowding the rest of the year: the population has only increased by about 300 people since 1850.
Wellfleet has an abundance of qualities to recommend it to visitors and new locals. For a Cape Cod day trip that will definitely make you smile, try a visit to the oldest jam kitchen in America.
