They’ve only been open a few months, but they are already making a name for themselves in this little town.
The BBQ amazing and they brew their own beer.
Tucked into a beautiful old Victorian home on a side street in the small eastern Iowa town of Mount Vernon, is the "Iowa BBQ" you've been searching for.
Smoked with subtle and sweet cherry wood, their ribs, pulled pork, and smoked chicken are worth the drive.
Big's Barbecue and Brew Pub opened in the spring of 2017, so they are fairly new. They are located at 124 Second Ave NW in Mount Vernon.
Philip Smith is the pitmaster, here. Aaron Gerbo is the brewmaster. As if outstanding Iowa BBQ isn't enough, Big's also makes their own beer.
Their tasting room is just off of the full-service dining area.
You can dine-in or take your BBQ to go. They even cater.
If you can't decide what to order, just go for Big's Family Sampler.
You'll get pulled pork, chicken, smoked sausage, and ribs plus three sides. The cole slaw is a favorite among frequent visitors.
This is a great place to stop by for lunch, too.
