When people find out that you’re from Indianapolis, they’re going to ask questions. Some of them will be legitimate and some will be downright silly. We’re here to prepare you for some of the common questions you’ll be asked during the course of your life. Here are 9 things people will always ask:
1. You must eat a lot of corn, right?
Well… sure. We are the capital of Indiana, one of the states where the most corn is grown each year. But, we eat plenty of other delicious foods as well. In fact, our city has become one of the hottest food cities in the country.
2. Do you like having seasons?
You’ll mostly get this from people on the West Coast or in Florida — places where warm weather is almost year-round. Seasons can be great, but the winter weather definitely gets old once it hits early February.
3. Does everyone live on a farm?
No. That’s just everywhere else in Indiana (joking). There’s actually plenty of city living throughout Indy and the rest of the state. This is, of course, just a common misconception by people who have never set foot in our city.
4. How’s the music scene?
The local music scene is fantastic, especially if you’re into jazz or blues. Indy is a common stop on nationwide tours from all kinds of genres, although we could definitely use more. A city like Chicago has a bigger scene when it comes to those national and international music tours.
5. Are you an IU, Purdue, or Notre Dame fan?
Well, this author is a Butler fan, but yeah… this question often comes up.
6. Do you really hate the New England Patriots that much?
Absolutely. Without question. 100 percent.
7. Don’t you want to move anywhere else?
This goes back to the misconception that Indy is a boring city. Sure, locals move other places all the time but people aren’t dying to leave this town because there’s nothing to do. (It’s the weather that drives them away.)
8. Doesn’t it get boring?
Every city can get boring if you’re not seeking out new experiences and things to try. If you do that, there’s almost no way Indianapolis gets boring. Between all the amazing restaurants, parks, museums, and entertainment options, Indy might be one of the least boring Midwestern cities.
9. Is Indianapolis a good place to live?
Absolutely! It’s rapidly growing, becoming a more interesting and fun place to live almost every day. We highly recommend it.
