As convenient as it is to get your groceries, auto supplies, and new socks all in one store, it’s refreshing to find a shop that focuses on one thing (and does it very well). This shop in Lincoln’s historic Haymarket district is dedicated to selling licorice from all over the world – and it’s absolute heaven for licorice lovers.
Licorice International's origins stretch back many years to a mail-order licorice business in New York. In 2002, the unique business reopened in Lincoln.
The newly-Nebraskan business operated out of the owners' homes for a while, but demand grew so quickly that the stock had to be moved into a commercial rental space.
At first, this was only intended to be the base for the mail and internet order business, but word got out about Licorice International's immense inventory of unusual licorice and other candy items.
Soon, people began stopping in to buy their treats directly from the store, and the owners decided to open the business up for retail purchases as well. They moved to the current location in the Haymarket district and history was made.
Although licorice is the laser-focus of this unusual shop, you can find some other treats here as well. If you're ever unsure of what to buy, just ask one of the helpful "licorice ladies." They'll be happy to work with you to find the perfect treat for yourself or someone else.
