Kansas City is called the City of Fountains for a pretty obvious reason. Whether you’ve visited all of our over 200 registered fountains or you’ve just seen the more popular ones, you can already tell just how much we love them. Which ones are the most mesmerizing fountains around? It’s impossible to choose just a few (if we included them all, you’d be reading for days!), but we’ve narrowed it down to 17 of our favorite pieces.
17. William T. and Charlotte Kemper Memorial Fountain
Though this fountain is more of a falls, the red rock backdrop marks this piece apart from the rest. Urban waterfalls are almost better than their natural counterparts when you're looking for convenience!
This fountain's sculpture of a lady standing tall and holding grapes makes you feel like you're in another country. However, this classic fountain can only be found right here in our city.
Children play with a beautiful backdrop of falling water. Though the sculpture isn't necessarily part of the fountain itself, they wouldn't be complete without each other.
This fountain is over in Olathe, but the location is so beautiful we felt it necessary to include it. The shooting jets of water are the star of the show, and the backdrop is definitely a unique piece of its own.
Another soothing step fountain lives at the Plaza, where you can relax and enjoy downtown. Plus, it's a nice place to dip your feet if you're walking by during the summer!
This water-shooting fountain isn't too deep and it's a bit more energetic that some of the soothing fountains on this list, but the layers of spray are pretty unique to this piece.
Recently renovated, this fountain makes everyone feel a little more whimsical and it brings a piece of that childhood innocence back into your day. Wouldn't you dance on pillars of water if you could?
Though the fountain doesn't look like much at the moment this photo was taken, water cascades from the rim of the high semicircle surrounding the smaller shoots of water below. When it's flowing strong, it's a magical place to hang out for a while.
The name of this fountain isn't far off the mark, as the sculpture framed by shooting pillars of water evokes the feeling of freedom. We love it when they color the water!
Neptune himself seems to have been captured and placed in this fountain, and his lifelike horses spout water from their noses as if they just came from the sea itself. When the water is blue, it doubles the beauty.
This fountain is the favorite of many Kansas Citians, and it has gone through a lot of color changes during the years it's been flowing. The horses are charging, and the fountain is one of the city's largest.
Framed against a stunning Kansas City sunset, there's nothing better than the rhythmic spray of this fountain. It's our #1 due to it's ever-changing patterns and how it is changed to almost every color of the rainbow.
