DC is one of the best cities for many reasons. But one of the main reasons we love living in DC is that it’s so easy to explore the surrounding areas. DC is just a quick trip from great attractions and fascinating small towns. We’ve told you about a few small towns before but we found one that you need to visit soon! We’re afraid Occoquan is just too popular to stay an underrated town for long!
Occoquan is a relaxed waterfront down 40 minutes outside of DC. It's steeped in history, is full of unique shops, great dining and plenty of fun activities for all.
If you've never taken a trip to Occoquan, we definitely recommend you add it to your list. Let's see how you could spend a day in historic Occoquan!
Start out exploring Occoquan's beautiful nature. The Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge has miles of walking trails and picturesque views. It's a gorgeous natural oasis.
After you've explored nature, head to downtown to meet locals, shop and dine.
Occoquan is home to fantastic independent boutiques and artisans where you can find one of a kind items or gifts. Make a stop at The Golden Goose, Northern Virginia's largest year round Christmas store!

The afternoon is the perfect time to explore Occoquan's history. Visit the beautiful Rockledge Mansion, a national historic landmark that was built in 1758. Or learn about the town's history at the Mill House Museum.
