There will always be outsiders trying to put down Maryland. I find that the best way to deal with stereotypes is to own them. What’s so wrong with the following 10 things? Just accept them as fact, and move on.
1. We think our flag is the best in the US.
How can anyone deny this fact? Just look at it!
2. We're crab cake snobs.
Nothing wrong with having a refined palate...
3. We put Old Bay on everything.
While southerners may douse everything in hot sauce, we Marylanders enjoy Old Bay on several food items. It's the spice of life here. Period.
4. We're obsessed with steamed crabs.
Crab season is only here for a few month out of the year so we feast while we can.
5. We enjoy a good Civil War reenactment.
History is abundant in the Old Line State. What better way to learn about the past than by seeing the action up close.
6. Traffic can be a mess...
7. ...so sometimes it's necessary to be an aggressive driver.
It's a helpful life skill, really.
8. Taxes are higher here...
9. ...and so is cost of living.
BUT we also have some of the best schools in the country and the lowest poverty rates in the entire US. Maryland also ranks the highest in the nation for household income.
10. We have an abundance of state pride.
There's nothing wrong with a little or a lot of state pride.
