You can’t go wrong dining in DC. We have some of the best restaurants in the country. Only now it’s official. Eater recently named hot spot Himitsu one of the best restaurants in the entire country. Naturally, we had to find out why it’s been winning rave reviews and we were not disappointed.
Co-owners Carlie Steiner and Kevin Tien opened Himitsu opened last fall in Petworth. You can often find the owners behind the bar or in the kitchen most days.
It’s a small 24 seat restaurant with an open kitchen and the restaurant has a very intimate feeling.
They serve "New Japanese" fare but their menu is consistently changing and always delicious.
Some local favorites include sushi, peking duck and the fantastic Korean fried chicken.
Don’t miss out on the freshly baked biscuits often served with the chicken and duck.
If you are a dessert person, you must try the Belgian waffle dessert served with salted caramel ice cream and pecans.
If you are a drinker, then you will love co-owner’s Carlie Steiner’s award winning craft cocktails
Himitsu follows the DC dining trend of not accepting reservations so if you do want to go, make sure you get there early or are prepared for a wait!
There is no doubt that Himitsu has earned its way onto the best restaurant lists and into the hearts of Washingtonians!
Himitsu is located at 828 Upshur St NW. They are open daily at 5pm. Check out more of the best restaurants in DC here.
