There is a town near San Francisco with a deathly reputation. Colma is known as “the City of the Silent”. Because Colma is a place where the living residents are outnumbered by the dead. Read more about this town with a dubious distinction.
Colma is a city in San Mateo County at the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula. This town of only around 1,800 people has a creepy and haunted history.
Colma has paranormal activity because most of the city is a vast cemetery, where 1.5 million of San Francisco’s dead are buried.
The bubonic plague in 1900 and then the 1906 earthquake of San Francisco caused destruction, fires, and death in the city. The need for remote plots was severe for a variety of reasons, so after years of negotiation San Francisco's dead were relocated to Colma in one of the largest relocations of the dead in history.
One haunted story of paranormal activity revolves around a sighting of a gargoyle creature perched on a tombstone. These sightings have been reported by past residents and visitors.
The most infamous account of activity is from 1997 the sap of a pine tree in the cemetery created the image of the Virgin Mary. This image of Virgin Mary is said to be from the disturbing of the dead.
Another haunted story involves a Zombie. Legend goes that a Colma police officer noticed a man with blood dripping from his ear to his mouth. Naturally, the man disappeared without a trace.
Wyatt Earp, the famous lawman, gambler, and Western is buried in Colma. His grave site has been the source of fascination and myth as well.
