Over the past few years, Indianapolis has become one of the premiere cities in the United States for food. 10 years ago, that wasn’t the case, so us locals are in seventh heaven right now. Last year, Zagat put Indy on its list of “26 Hottest Food Cities” and these nine dishes are certainly part of the reason for that.
1. Fried Chicken (and collards) - The Eagle
The Eagle is an absolute must when you’re on Mass Ave in downtown Indy. Delicious drinks and a fun atmosphere make for an enjoyable way to spend an evening, but the food makes it even better.
The Fried Chicken. That’s what you have to get at The Eagle. The chef uses all natural, cage free chickens to create some of the best fried chicken you’ll find in the city. Get it with the collards and you won’t be disappointed.

2. 7 Tidals Buffalo Chicken Dip - Scotty’s Brewhouse
Owner Scott Wise created this now-iconic franchise back in 1996 and, after years of hard work, Scotty’s has turned from one location into 18. Wherever you are in Indy, you’re not far from a Scotty’s Brewhouse.
If you’re looking for an appetizer, there’s no better choice than the 7 Tidals buffalo chicken dip. This dip is made with grilled chicken, bleu and cheddar cheeses, plus Scotty’s own "Mo’Fo Hot" sauce.

3. Bourbon Burger - Bru Burger Bar
If you’re into burgers, Bru Burger Bar isn’t a place you can pass up. It features a wide selection of burgers and sandwiches, as well as a selection of 16 rotating craft beers and plenty of bottles.

4. Tofu & Pesto Omelette - SoBro Cafe
Since 2011, this popular brunch spot has offered internationally-inspired dishes that cater to anyone and everyone — meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans alike. If you can’t find something you’ll like on this menu, I’d be shocked.
Whether you’re a vegetarian or not, you have to try the tofu and pesto omelette. Made with garlic-cilantro pesto, blackened tofu, and goat cheese, this omelette is a perfect way to start any day.

5. Any Tamale - The Tamale Place

6. Pork Schnitzel - The Rathskeller
In the summer, the Rathskeller’s main attraction is its outdoor beer garden, which features live music throughout the week. But this German beer hall isn’t just known for oasis of brews. It’s also known for its delicious food.
Try the pork schnitzel. It’s essentially a center cut pork loin that has been pan-fried in the Rathskeller’s special (and delicious) breading.
