Everyone loves a good challenge, but a select few love a good food challenge. While there are plenty of food challenges that will get your picture on a wall of fame and a free t-shirt, some give you the whole meal for free. And lets be honest, if you successfully complete any of these ten challenges, you should be pretty full for the next few days.
1. HWY 55, 55 Challenge, all locations.
The 55 challenge consists of 55 ounces of meat on a bun, four toppings, a side of fries and a 24 oz. drink. Finish it all in 30 minutes and that gut-busting meal is free!
2. Pack's Tavern, Pack's Mt. Mitchell, Asheville.
This 6-pound version of the classic Pack's Mt. Mitchell is yours for free if you can finish your plate clean! Hey, it's worth saving the $49...and your name will go on the wall of fame.
3. Black Mountain Mill, 40-inch pizza challenge.
You and a friend have one hour to finish this massive, 40 inch, 15 pound pizza. Think you can do it?
4. El Cerro Grande, El Papi Grande Burrito Challenge, Wilmington.
Burritos are delicious, but think you can handle a 7.5 lb. burrito loaded with meat, veggies, and topped with guacamole, lettuce, and sour cream? If you finish it in under an hour the meal is free, you get your name on the wall of fame, and a free t-shirt! Aye carumba!
5. Mabel's Big Bowl Ice Cream Challenge, Manteo.
You scream, I scream, we all scream for 16 monster scoops of ice cream! Finish it in 45-minutes and you'll get this (huge) tasty treat for free along with a t-shirt.
6. I Love Pho, Pho Challenge, Greensboro.
Many people have tried to conquer the I love Pho Challenge. Despite the fact that you really love pho, it can be hard to finish 2 lbs of noodles, 2 lbs of beef and all of the broth in one hour. Think you got what it takes?
7. Sauceman's, Clark Griswald, Charlotte.
Finish this intimidating, 2.5 lb. hunk of BBQ, coleslaw, hushpuppies and side in under 30 minutes, the meal is on the house.
8. Mac's Fatboy Burger Challenge, all locations.
This challenge seems delicious on small scale, but finishing all of this burger topped with cheese and bacon, served with fries, mac and cheese and onion rings, in under one hour seems extremely daunting. But hey, someone has done it!
9. Calabash Creamery, Kitchen Sink.
Another ice cream challenge. This one is a bit different. It includes 24 scoops of ice cream made consisting of each flavor served. The topper though, the toppings are also all of the toppings Calabash Creamery serves. Finish it all in an hour and $50.00 worth of ice cream is yours for free.
10. Ba-Da Wings' French Fry Wrap Challenge, Raleigh.
The typical french fry wrap (shown on the right) is perfect for dinner, but what about the filling of 6 french fry wraps, in two tortillas, deep fried. Not for the weak hearted, finish it all in under an hour and it's yours for free.
