People in Connecticut are usually cool as a cucumber, but there are a few things so awesome they’ll get anyone who’s ever lived in Connecticut super excited.
1. The Meadows...oops, we mean XFINITY Theatre
Summer isn't summer without a concert at XFINITY Theatre. The indoor/outdoor amphitheatre has a 30,000-person capacity, making it one of the largest in the country.
2. Apple cider doughnuts
Once the last week of August rolls around, it's officially safe to get excited for one of Connecticut's best delicacies: apple cider doughnuts. They're what fall in Connecticut tastes like.
3. Hartford Whalers
In 21st Century Connecticut, the Hartford Whalers are part myth, part actual Hartford hometown hockey team that moved to North Carolina and became the Hurricanes before the 1997-98 season. They were pretty bad at hockey, but they had the best logo in hockey history.
4. History
Okay, maybe everyone in Connecticut doesn't get excited about history, but everyone who grew up here learned plenty about it on field trips. After all, Connecticut is one of the oldest states in the country. We can't escape history here.
5. UConn
UConn gives Connecticut plenty to be proud of, from excellent academics to one of the best sports programs in the country. It would be foolish to suggest UConn basketball is anything less than unstoppable in front of someone from Connecticut.
6. New England Patriots
Speaking of sports, Connecticut football fans generally root for the Patriots. Sure, there are a few Giants fans. Some people in Connecticut even root for teams from other random states. Still, it's not advisable to speak ill of Tom Brady at a Connecticut Super Bowl party.
7. The Boston Red Sox...mostly
Some people in Connecticut might prefer Yankee tickets over seats on the Big Green Monster, but this is pretty solidly Red Sox territory.
8. Food trucks
Over the past decade or so, food trucks have exploded in popularity. Here in Connecticut, we have some good ones. Find them lined up on the Long Wharf in New Haven or at events around the state.
9. Country fairs
if you're from Connecticut, you know country fairs mean copious amounts of fried dough, tractor pulls, animals, arts and crafts exhibits, local vendors, and much more to get excited about.
10. The beach
People in Connecticut don't just get excited over the beach, we get excited over the debate over which beaches are best. Some people in Connecticut think the Long Island Sound beaches are fine, others insist Rhode Island beaches are the way to go.
Who got excited just reading this list? Are you ready for apple cider doughnut season, or do you wish we could stay in beach season for a little while longer?
