If you’re not feeling well, Washington is a reliable place to be as we have several incredible doctors & award-winning facilities in our state. And while none of us hopefully end up at a hospital, we all certainly want the best treatment possible if we do seek medical care. Based off rankings from U.S. News & World Report and Health Grove , here are 12 of the highest-rated hospitals in our region:
1. University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle
This nationally recognized hospital has repeatedly been rated as our state's best facility and scored high in patient safety and specialty care! It is also home to the world's first pain clinic, and was the location of the first long-term kidney dialysis machine.
2. Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia
According to Health Grove, 81% of patients said they'd recommend this 390-bed nonprofit hospital in our state's capital. This facility is also only one of three in our state that has been recognized as a "Magnet" hospital, which is awarded to the top medical centers in the nation for nursing excellence.
3. Providence Sacred Heart and Holy Family, Spokane
With over 600 beds, this is the only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in all of Eastern Washington and is consistently the highest rated hospital in the Spokane area!
4. Evergreen Health Medical Center, Kirkland
This 318-bed general hospital has been ranked among the nation's Top 5% of hospitals by Health Grades, and some of their highest performing specialties include neurology, orthopedics, and pulmonology.
5. Harborview Medical Center, Seattle
Offering special care in almost every area of medicine, Harborview is a world-renowned Level I adult and pediatric trauma center that has been constantly awarded for their excellence in patient care and educational programs.
6. Virginia Mason Medical Center, Seattle
Emerald City is home to many great medical facilities! This 336-bed general hospital has been widely recognized as one of the best in the nation for their innovative research center and first-class health care. They've introduced a number of new inventions like the first use of deep therapy X-ray in 1937 and electromagnetic imaging in 1974!
7. Overlake Hospital, Bellevue
This nonprofit regional medical center offers 349 beds and a full range of advanced medical services. Besides their high ratings on Health Grove and U.S. News, they've also had numerous physicians named as Top Doctors in the Puget Sound Region by Seattle Magazine.
8. Central Washington Hospital, Wenatchee
This 198-bed general hospital is the highest rated in the central Washington area, with 81% of patients who were surveyed indicating that they would recommend this medical facility to others.
9. Tacoma General Allenmore, Tacoma
This Level II trauma center is the largest hospital in Tacoma with 437 beds and is the second largest center in the entire state for obstetrics.
10. Peacehealth Southwest Medical Center, Vancouver
As the leading hospital for the southwest region of Washington, this 450-bed nonprofit provides a full range of premium medical and surgical services. They're one of only three trauma centers near the Oregon border that offer advanced emergency care.
11. Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital
This level III adult & pediatric trauma center has 222 licensed beds and provides birthing services, a neonatal intensive care unit, and a pediatrics unit. It's also the largest employer in all of Yakima with about 2,200 workers!
12. Providence St. Mary Medical Center, Walla Walla
This full-service hospital has some of the highest rated specialists, technology, and primary care in the Walla Walla Valley. In 2013, they were ranked in the top 10% in the whole nation for patient safety by Healthgrades! They were also only one of seven in the state to earn an excellent rating, and received the highest possible rating for surgery by Consumer Reports in 2013.
Of course, this list comes from rankings based off measures of performance such as patient safety and outcomes, but everybody has a different experience.
