When you have lived in New Orleans for a long time, it’s easy to see that there are certain habits that become pretty normal. Here are some of the undying habits of New Orleanians that prove you can never take New Orleans out of the New Orleanian.

It’s hard to get your schedule on time when you’re used to things going on the NOLA timeline. I’m still kind of surprised every time things start right when they say they are going to.

People in New Orleans have such a passion for food and music, everyone has strong opinions. So many opinions, in fact, that it can be really difficult to hold them back!

Even when I know the answer is gonna be no, I still have to ask. I guess in a way I am just hoping that the people will come to understand this is one thing everyone in the country should adopt.

Once you’ve been stung by the notorious buckmoth caterpillars in New Orleans, you can bet that you’ll keep away from all other caterpillars for the rest of time.

Even if there is no indication that it’s the type of parade where people are going to throw you anything, when you’re from New Orleans, it’s automatic. You just have to try! Even if it is just a marching club.

People in New Orleans are very into the whole curb alert thing. Apparently in other cities most things on the curb are meant from the trash, but New Orleanians know that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!

If there isn’t already hot sauce on the table, a lot of alarm bells go off. If you don’t already have it with you, then you need it nearby, asap.

In New Orleans, you celebrate for pretty much anything---including funerals, which we see as a celebration of the person’s whole life. So even if you find yourself living somewhere else, celebration just becomes second nature.
