The dictionary defines the word “enchanting” as an adjective meaning “delightfully charming or attractive”; I happen to define Kansas as the same. That being said, here are 12 of the most enchanting spots in Kansas that you may or may not know exist:
1. Cowley Lake Waterfall (Dexter)
This 25' waterfall, which is surrounded by native trees and shrubs, is a gem that deserves to be visited (at least once).
2. Lindsborg
No need to hop a plane to visit Sweden; just take I-135 to "Little Sweden," where you can explore Coronado's Castle, dine on authentic Swedish foods, and discover all 21 Wild Dala Horses.
3. Drinkwater & Schriver Flour Mill (Cedar Point)
It doesn't get more beautiful than this historic stone mill, which has stood proudly alongside the Cottonwood River since 1875.
4. Flint Hills
These hills are alive with the sound of... nothing. Isn't it great?! Not only are the Flint Hills are peaceful oasis, they are also pretty to look at.
5. Wamego
This charming Kansas town is full of lions and tigers and... well, you get the picture. Only in Wamego will you find the Oz Museum, Winery, and even Toto's Tacos!
6. Monument Rocks (Elkader)
These majestic formations, also known as the Chalk Pyramids, are said to have been created more than 80 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period of geologic history.
7. Castle Rock (Quinter)
Same history (and just as magnificent) as Monument Rocks.
8. Western Kansas nighttime sky
Nowhere else but western Kansas will you find such clear, picturesque skies, perfect for stargazing!
9. Garden of Eden (Lucas)
Odd? Yes. Strange? You bet! Colorful? Mmhmm. Despite all the quirky, the Garden of Eden (made up of gigantic concrete sculptures) is still an interesting, almost magical place that you have to see to believe.
10. Gypsum Hills (Medicine Lodge)
The rich reds of the Gypsum Hills are a unique sight to see in Kansas. Made up of canyons, mesas, sinkholes and ancient floodplains, these "Red Hills" are ones you will surely want to hike.
11. Mushroom Rock State Park (Brookville)
Who else thinks of "Alice in Wonderland" when they see these unusual, mushroom-shaped formations?!
12. Deep Creek Waterfall at Pillsbury Crossing (Manhattan)
It doesn't get anymore peaceful than the mesmerizing Deep Creek Waterfall, which has a low river crossing that spans 60 feet wide and 5 feet tall.
