For centuries, there has been a tiny town in Connecticut plagued by rumblings and weird noises. The Native Americans blamed it on a particularly noisy spirit, but when the Puritans arrived in the 1600s, they were quickly convinced they were the sounds of Satan himself. The town was continually thought to be haunted for nearly three hundred years, but the mystery was officially solved in the 1980s. However, that doesn’t mean the noises have stopped!

The town is named for its Native American title Machimoodus, which means "place of bad noises." It is now home to approximately 1,300 residents. Even though their town is a geological oddity, they are leading normal lives and welcome visitors to explore the town.

You can follow the trails around the untouched land and discover for yourself the same way the Puritans did. Except you won't have to be afraid the devil is chasing you with science on your side. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of this natural wonder worry free as you head to Mount Tom, where most of the noises originate.

That's right! Moodus experiences a high number of small earthquakes, which is what causes the noises. Or so they say. Not everyone is convinced, and travelers are still too scared to venture down Hobomocko cave, where they claim you can hear the devil yell. You'll have to find out for yourself!
