It’s no secret that Colorado is home to numerous small towns… but have you ever taken the time to stop in and stay awhile? It may be hard to do this with every single town, but we highly recommend doing it with this unique community that is truly anything but ordinary:
Located in south central Colorado, Antonito is a small town of just over 700 that may sound tiny, but packs a punch in terms of friendly residents and fascinating attractions.
Incorporated in 1889, San Antonio Junction was originally a sheep herding camp that changed its name to Antonito upon the arrival of a Denver & Rio Grande Railroad line, which provided many new jobs for the area.
When you visit today, you will find a number of interesting attractions including a historic Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad terminus...
...Cano's Castle...
Your eyes do not deceive you; that is in fact a castle built primarily of empty beer cans and retired scrap metal.
...various pieces of art located throughout town...
...various restaurants, shops, and a whole lot more!
(If none of the above interests you, maybe this will: Antonito is a 420-friendly community that is home to several dispensaries.)
It is for these reasons and more that we find Antonito to be a unique and fascinating small town that is truly anything but ordinary.
